April 14 - Palm Sunday
9:00 a.m.: Worship in the Sanctuary with meditative prayer and communion.
10:30 a.m.: Worship in the Sanctuary. Children and Youth singers featured, along with a parade of palm-waving children.
April 18 - Maundy Thursday
7:30 p.m.: Worship in the Sanctuary. Maundy Thursday commemorates the events of the day before Jesus’s execution, including The Last Supper and the arrest of Jesus. The Sanctuary Choir will lead this service with For Us the Living: A Requiem, a beautiful series of pieces for choir, organ, strings, flute, oboe, and harp. Read more on our Music page.
April 19 - Good Friday
7:30 p.m.: Worship in the Sanctuary. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion. The sonorous voices of Tom Pedersen and Greg Watkins will help lead this somber service as we reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice and death upon a cross.
April 20 - Saturday Eggstravaganza
9:30-11:30 a.m.: This time of family-friendly fellowship and fun starts in Heavener Hall and will include a light breakfast, Easter-themed crafts, a short re-telling of the Easter Story, and an Easter Egg Hunt. Bring a basket and your friends. All are welcome; rsvps's will help us plan. Read more on our Children's page.
April 21 - Easter Sunday
7:30 am: First Service of Easter in the Memorial Garden (weather permitting). By long tradition, the St. Paul’s Youth lead this time of prayer, praise, and scripture marking Jesus’ resurrection.
9:00 am: Worship in the Sanctuary. This service is designed to be especially appropriate for families with young children and features seasonal music. Nursery care available.
10:30 am: Worship in the Sanctuary. This service includes seasonal music and the sacrament of Holy Communion. Nursery care available.
Please note: Nursery care is provided Easter Sunday at 9:00 a.m. & 10:30 a.m.
There is no Sunday School on Easter so teachers, parents, and students can enjoy worship together.
We will once again enjoy lilies in the Sanctuary on Easter Sunday. Plants have been sponsored by members and friends of St. Paul's and are dedicated in honor or memory of loved ones. Please see the full list of dedications in the bulletin for the 9:00 or 10:30 worship services.
Sponsors may take home their plants following the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Easter, April 21. Plants can also be picked up in the Narthex during office hours April 23-26, or on Sunday April 28. Plants left after that time may be delivered to those who are ill, home-bound, or otherwise wishing for a little extra cheer.
God has blessed the ministries of this church and has allowed us a vision that looks far beyond our own walls to see people and places in need. At their last meeting, our Church Council decided to set aside all of this year’s special Easter Offering to support two projects:
- The Adrienne Terry Fund, an affordable housing initiative of our Greater Washington District designed to help those at risk of homelessness find proper shelter.
- UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee On Relief that responds in times of crisis to feed, shelter, clothe, and restore communities struck by disaster in the U.S. and around the globe.
Please use the Easter Offering envelope found in Sunday's worship bulletins to give to these worthy projects. Checks may be made payable to St. Paul’s UMC, but write “Easter Offering” on the memo line.
All other offerings, or donations toward your 2019 yearly giving pledge, should be made using an envelope other than the Easter Offering envelope. Thank you!
