Regular Giving Options


You will be able to make a one-time or recurring donation to one of these funds:

  • General Fund - The core of St. Paul's budget, covering a myriad of needs for the life and work of the church, providing for worship, study and education, faith formation, justice & compassion projects, and the day-to-day utility bills, salaries, and supplies. These things make it possible to engage in vital ministries throughout the life of our church and beyond.
  • Building Improvement Fund - The Improvement Fund keeps our building comfortable and safe, covering such things as emergency repairs for broken heating or air conditioning systems, fixing leaky pipes, replacing worn or damaged carpet, and unexpected but essential building-related expenses. 
  • Technology Advancement Fund - These dedicated funds will allow the church to make significant investments in technology, software, and equipment to continue offering online worship and educational activities, and to keep our network and church data secure. Long-term goals include creating comprehensive, reliable, and secure wifi coverage throughout our building.
  • Hunger Ministry- Support our ongoing efforts to feed families in the 20895 ZIP code with this signature community service project! Every month, we provide hungry neighbors with shelf-stable pantry staples, a takeout meal, and grocery store cards that enable recipients to select the fresh produce, meat, and dairy that we can't stock, and to choose personal hygiene items with dignity. Special Sunday: Peace with Justice

"Speak out... for the rights of all who are vulnerable. Speak out in order to judge with righteousness and to defend the needy and the poor." (Proverbs 31:8-9)


One of our denomination’s six Special Sundays, Peace with Justice Sunday calls the church to strengthen its capacity to advocate publicly and care for underserved communities throughout the world. Through connectional giving, contributions from St. Paul's join with contributions from United Methodist churches worldwide. Peace with Justice funds are administered by the General Board of Church and Society with half of all gifts staying with local ministries in each conference and half supporting the work of Church and Society globally. 


This year, Peace with Justice Sunday will be recognized on May 26, 2024.

We also gratefully receive donations by cash or check. Please make checks payable to St. Paul's UMC with "Peace/Justice Special" on the memo line, and mail to St. Paul's UMC, Attn: Treasurer, 10401 Armory Ave., Kensington MD 20895, or place your donations in the Sunday offering plates.


When you donate to Peace with Justice offering, you're supporting efforts like these programs that received funding during the last few years:

  • The youth group at Calhoun First UMC in Calhoun, GA started the Book Blessings program with a PWJ grant in 2019. Calhoun has a high poverty rate and a high rate of non-native English speakers. Increased literacy is a key to helping kids overcome the effects of poverty, so the Calhoun UMC Book Blessings program purchases and distributes books to families through after-school programs, specifically targeting those facing homelessness or who receive free tutoring within the school system.   • Helping Our Neighbors (HON) is a community engagement ministry of First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo, MI. Moved by regular contact with persons living in homelessness or insecure housing, HON volunteers started asking, “What do you need?” Many of those they have come to know said, “We need a reliable way to communicate with persons and places that are essential for our safety and welfare.” Through a 2022 PWJ grant, HON began offering cell phones. Recipients have used them to find employment, call 911 in emergencies, and make routine appointments. (https://www.umc.org/en/content/helping-our-neighbors-in-kalamazoo-pwjs)
  • The United Methodist Men organization in the Northeast District, East Mindanao Philippines Annual Conference, took on Environmental Justice and systemic poverty at the same time. With a PWJ grant in 2019, they divided a portion of the conference property into 10 modules, each with a focus on sustainable agriculture: tree orchards; range chicken production; duck, goat, hog and quail raising; inland fish ponds; mushroom culture and management; and organic vegetable farming. The goal is to teach sustainable agricultural practices AND create a dedicated source of organic, healthy foods for the surrounding community.   • The Summer Arts Camp of United Methodist Church of the Redeemer, in Temple Hills, MD, received a grant from the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference in 2021 to design a program in partnership with a local youth center to help children unleash their creative abilities and artistic expressions through drama, music, dance, visual arts and photography. According to Rev. Michael Parker, "We are carving out safe space for children who live in extremely at-risk communities to have positive, safe, community building activities and receive nutritious meals throughout the summer, which is the peak time for juvenile-related offenses. Our children are able to not just build bridges but be bridges of hope and change in our community."
  • In Indianapolis IN, a grant through the annual conference supports Matthew’s Voices hosted at Roberts Parks UMC. This choir offers access to and addresses the need for the arts in populations in the city that often go untouched, unloved, and underserved. 
  • The “Letting Girls Be Girls” program provides health education programming and services for young girls in the Rotifunk community of Sierra Leone.

UMC "Special Sundays" Offerings

UMC "Special Sundays" are designated by the global United Methodist Church and enable congregations throughout our whole denomination to celebrate, commemorate, and contribute connectionally to support important causes. By combining our Special Sunday offerings with those of other UMC congregations, the UMC is able to do more work, together, to support growth and change for all God's people.


For most Special Sunday offerings, half the funds collected on a Special Sunday stay within a conference, administered by the conference's finance office to serve conference-level needs and initiatives, while the other half go the the UMC's general conference board of finance for supporting UMC projects worldwide.


The United Methodist Church calendar includes recommended dates for celebrating each Special Sunday, while allowing individual congregations to celebrate Special Sundays and welcome offerings on any Sunday that is convenient and appropriate.

St. Paul's creates online giving options for each Special Sunday giving opportunity, and provides Special Sunday offering envelopes on designated dates during worship.

Frequent Focus: UMCOR RElief

When war, natural disaster, or other crises damage a community beyond what they are able to sustain on their own, the United Methodist Committee on Relief is there. 


UMCOR provides immediate emergency aid through their network of partners in the US and over 80 countries worldwide. Unlike many other emergency responders, however, UMCOR also makes a commitment to long-term stabilization and rebuilding efforts.


Whether it's flooding in Tennessee, wildfires in Australia, hurricanes in Puerto Rico, or war in Ukraine, UMCOR bring hope and resources to people in their hour of greatest need. 


Donations made here will be directed to UMCOR's "Where Most Needed" category (UMC Advance #999895). Because the UMC covers UMCOR's administrative costs, 100% of your relief donations go to relief efforts directly supporting communities in crisis.

If you prefer, donations and offerings by check are always welcome and should be mailed to St. Paul's UMC, Attn: Treasurer, 10401 Armory Ave., Kensington MD 20895, or dropped off at the office. Please make all checks payable to St. Paul's UMC and be sure to note the cause or fund in the Memo line.

Offering Envelopes Available

Members and friends of St. Paul's who give their general offering to St. Paul's using check or cash may choose to receive customized paper offering envelopes. These come from a printing service and arrive at donors' homes, ready to use and pre-printed with the donors' name, address, envelope number, and Sunday dates (although you can use them any time).


PLEASE NOTE:

Our printing partner that produces the paper envelopes experienced a supply-chain interruption and they were unable to mail out the envelopes for the start of 2023. Envelope recipients should see their customized envelopes in the mail starting in March. In the meantime, you may mail checks to St. Paul's using any envelope, with a note in the memo line indicating you are making an offering, or give online using the giving portal options above. Thank you!



If you would normally place checks or cash in the offering plate and now wish to mail it to St. Paul's, these customized paper envelopes might be useful to you. Email Erin Steele (stpaulsunited@stpaulsk.org) and she will add you to the list.


Alternatively, if you receive envelopes but shifted to online giving and no longer need printed envelopes, please let us know. This can help keep clutter out of your mailbox and save the church a little money on printing and postage costs. Please email Erin (stpaulsunited@stpaulsk.org) with your request.


One last note:  Thank you for your patience! Due to the printers' timetable and the challenges of working remotely during the COVID-19 period, there may be a two-month (or more) delay between your request and a change in your paper envelope status.
