Malice in the Palace

July 8-14, 2019

Directed by Robin Mayhew

For one week each July, St. Paul's hosts dozens of middle-school age performers, plus youth and parent helpers, as they put together a one-act musical on a biblical theme. Students audition, memorize roles, learn choreography, fix up costumes, and enjoy snacks, games, and fellowship.

The 2019 performance "Malice in the Palace" offers a retelling of the story of Esther, the biblical queen. As authors Tom Long and Allen Pote write in their introduction to this piece, "The story of Esther has all the ingredients for a great Hollywood thriller - a beautiful and spirited heroine, a dark-hearted villain, a twisting plot full of danger and intrigue, and cliffhanger climax. And in the midst of excitement is a powerful message: the smallest person acting bravely can make an enormous difference, for God has placed us where we are for a reason."

Performances are offered on the last day of camp, and during both worship services on Sunday.

Camper registration occurs early each Spring and there are a limited number of spots. If you are interested in participating in future years, please contact Robin Mayhew at

Shepherds Needed for Young Audiences

Sunday School will not be held on Musical Theatre Camp Sunday so that all may enjoy the musical. Children will be invited forward to watch up close! We need a few volunteers to help chaperone the little ones. If you are able to serve in this role, please add your name to the sheet found at or contact Meg Baker at or 301-933-7933 ext. 104.
